Another late night phone call to Papa on the island tonight. Not much he could do, I guess, but I needed the moral support. Sorry Papa, for waking you up on a Sermon Night (vs. he used to have School Night's).
Papa was home for a couple of days this week. Yippee!!! Mama went shopping without children for the first time in 2.5 months. Mama "power shopped" for 5 hours ... stocking up on EVERYTHING. Mama had made menus for the next 6 weeks, and filled the refrigerators and freezers with all kinds of yummy things.
Mama went out to the old refrigerator in the garage tonight to discover that ... it wasn't working. Oh no!!! Mama quickly threw all of the freezer meat into our large upright freezer. (Don't know why Papa put it in the smaller freezer after the shopping trip.) "Lost" a 1/2 gallon of Mama's favorite Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream. Sad! Then, surveyed the refrigerator items. It was full of probably $50 worth of milk, cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese ... and, of course, strawberries from yesterday's 100#s.
The young ones were in bed, and Kati, Ben, & Hosanna were off watching fireworks at a little local summer festival, which left Mama all alone to deal with the situation. Ugh!
The inside refrig. would have been considered "full" already ... but I knew I had to make room. Pull everything out. Rearrange. Carry all dairy products in from the garage. Stuff ... cram ... overload ... and pray that the door closes. Whew!
Right when I closed the refrig. door ... the Big Kids walked in. Perfect timing.
Oh how Mama misses having Papa
around for the everyday "stuff"!!!
It's just easier to deal with "stuff"
when walking through life with
a teammate, a partner,
a very best friend.
Boy! Do I know how you feel! Our freezer (the huge one) just started acting up about a week ago. Kept praying that it would hold out til' we got another one. Well, it was full of the chickens and turkeys that we had just butchered, 3 bushels of peas that we had just put up, some hams, mayhaws for jelly, blueberries...all of my PUT UP food that we use throughout the year....Sniff, sniff...When hubby gets home from work, it is all too late to drive the long distance into town to find a replacement (we live in the boonies), so I called my Dad. He brought a smaller one to us @ 9:30 pm and I managed to save most of the freezer's most important contents. Who wants to scald, pluck, butcher, and freeze a turkey just to throw it away? NOT ME!!! I was about to cry! But, I had totally turned it over to the GIVER of ALL things :o) I know He is in control! My hubby is home most every night, but I still feel that he is gone so much. He works 12-14 hours a day. I feel like we hardly see him. I can't imagine how hard it would be if he were off in another place. One tough lady, you are!
ReplyDeleteHang in there!Thinking of you...
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, so not easy missing your best friend, the one you love in this life. Hang tight, friend.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs to you today.
Oh my! Glad you caught it quick enough and were able to save just about everything. Praying the problem is an easy (and cheap) fix.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the ice cream... that would have been a nice comfort-treat after all that work! :(
oh no.......not fun things to deal with :(
