A Whole Lot of Work ... but Worth It!

102# of "U-Pick" Fresh Strawberries

50 Quarts of Jam

9 Gallons of "Flash Frozen" Whole Berries
(for Smoothies & Fruit Salads)

6 Quarts of "Flash Frozen" Sliced Berries
(for Pancakes & Waffles & Ice Cream)

Missing so many of my Big Kid helpers,
but Hosanna has been an AMAZING helper this week.
(Ben has helped, too; but he has been working
a LOT, at a local Strawberry Processing Plant.)

Hoping for a week or two break before Raspberries.

  1. I confess...I have envy right now! I just told Joe that I think we need to invest in a freezer again, & when I see this, it affirms it (as long as I follow through with the work end of it!).

  2. Yea for you!! And your family!! I have put up about 36 jars of strawberry jam, 18 of blueberry and 12 of mint jelly. Hoping to add plum and peach to the mix next week along with some pineapple sage jelly as well. Busy times but so rewarding to see those jars filling the shelves and the bags of frozen fruits filling the freezers!! Beautiful bountiful blessings!

  3. As someone who will surely eat these berries and jam throughout the next year, I'd like to say: THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK! I love your strawberry jam. And waffles with strawberries... YUM!

  4. Oh my.

When I have a big enough freezer, we will do this:) And pantry space.

We just bought a great dehydrator... now I need to get brave and start using it ;)
