Am I Supposed To Be
STRESSED OUT Yet?
Josh & Hannah are getting married in 2 weeks.
Cassie & Dean are getting married in 5 weeks.
I keep waiting for the Mother-of-the-Groom
and Mother-of-the-Bride STRESS to hit ...
but it hasn't.
I think that is because there is so much
OTHER STRESS
in my life right now,
that there isn't room to add any.
But ...
Cassie & Hannah are both such organized
and administrative brides that things
really are planned well.
I bought my Mother-of-the-Groom dress last Saturday.
I bought my Mother-of-the-Bride dress on Thursday.
Really, the only Wedding-Related-Stress right now
is that we don't have the money to even GO to
Cassie's wedding in Oregon. Seriously. Right now we
don't have the money for gas, nor hotel rooms.
BUT ... I have NO DOUBT that the Lord will
provide the money in time. I am truly not
too stressed about that.
We will camp if we have to.
I feel HORRIBLE that we have not received the
Government-Promised Adoption Tax Credit,
with which we were supposed to be able to
help pay for both of these weddings. It has
BROKEN MY HEART to tell my children that we
"HAVE NOT A DIME" to give towards their weddings.
We will, however, host the Rehearsal Dinner
for Josh & Hannah's wedding party and families.
They have requested Mama's Lasagna.
But ...
I KNOW that the weddings will be BEAUTIFUL!
I have NO DOUBT about that fact.
The brides may not be able to afford everything
they had hoped for, but they will get married
to the young men that they love so dearly.
Their families will be surrounding them with love.
Friends will come from near and far.
There will be flowers ...
and candles ...
and food.
And ...
I have NO DOUBT that the LORD will
BLESS each of these coming wedding days,
regardless of the lack of the Adoption Tax Credit
(which is causing MUCH more STRESS
than the impending weddings).
All of you Mama's who have done the "wedding thing",
why don't you let me know what wedding things
I am supposed to be stressed out about.
Never been a mother of the bride....but I am guessing some of the stress comes when momma and child/ren don't see eye to eye on things. Never had that from my mother in love :) !!! Praise God she is wonderful!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou know I think it will all be ok...we had handmade invites, my mother in love made my dress...used my mom's veil, had friends cater the "after wedding tidbits", used the church Jason grew up at- no cost there, had a flower arranger friend do the arrangements, had another couple of friends take pictures (they were NOT professionals), and spent money on a pair of shoes, the material for the dress- cheap, Jason bough pants, vest, shirt as well as the same for my brother (best man)....seriously CHEAP wedding, but THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God was THERE!!! :) Your beautiful brides will have the BEST day because of WHY they are there NOT because of what they did or didn't have.....because I am sure their hearts are set on Things Above.
I know this is still soooo stressful- FOR SOOO MANY REASONS other than surface things. PRAYING because I love you dear friend. For you and for the weddings......the grooms the brides.....and your finances!!!!! As well as MANY other things :)
Much LOVE from the Wrights- because we would sooo LOVE TO BE THERE - we would totally go camping with you :) !!! That would be a blast!
I'm glad you AREN'T stressed. It isn't from God so you're in a great place. (((hugs))) You have given your kids more than what money can buy and that is what is important.
ReplyDeleteI pray the tax credit comes in for you.
Wow, your kids are awfully fortunate to have you. My wedding was 364 days ago--- yeah tomorrow is my one year anniversary! :) Unfortunately, my mama REALLY kinda ripped my heart out the day before my wedding by throwing a huge tantrum at my rehearsal and then refusing to go. My mommy wasn't there to see me marry the man I love, and that hurt like heck. There were a lot of tears shed that night of the rehearsed and then the morning of the wedding while I was in the shower.
ReplyDeleteI think my advice would be, as the mama- just worry about making sure the brides and grooms know you are there for them and that you love them. No need to stress- I'm glad you are not- but maybe you could help your daughter put her jewelry on and your son his corsage. And if one of them says "I'm so stressed I could shoot myself." maybe make a joke and remind them to breath.
If you don't have the money to get to the wedding, may I suggest Craigslist rideshare, hitchhiking or loans. Its really important for the mamas to be at their kids weddings. i know God will provide.
Z ... Oh how my heart goes out to you. I am so sorry that your mom didn't attend your wedding. So sorry. So sad.
ReplyDeleteMy mom attended my wedding, but threw a big fit 30 minutes before the ceremony. The pastor had to take her outside and have a chat with her. Ugh!
Don't you worry, we WILL be at our daughter's wedding. Yes. We would borrow money for gas if we had to. But, we had hoped to rent a house and go help with all of the wedding "stuff" the week before the wedding. Right now, we don't have money for renting a house or staying in a hotel, due to the government's failure to give us our tax credit. THAT is what is so frustrating right now.
We will camp if we have to, but I just can't imagine getting all showered and dressed for the wedding ... in the little campground bathrooms. :)
Big Hugs! And congrats on your anniversary.
Laurel :)
We had no money for our wedding and only my mother was able to attend ( no friends/no family). But it meant the world to have her there. She made my dress and everything else didn't matter. I only had photos that others gave us.
ReplyDeleteIn today's world so many focus on the 'wedding' and not the 'marriage.' You being there with all your family is the best way to be married - no stress about caterers, lack of something, things falling to pieces etc.
I think it sooo wonderful that your whole family shows up and supports one another. That will be the most important memory!
Dont stress about the wedding at all! Just go with the flow, one of the BEST gifts you can give any bride!!! :)
ReplyDeletecant wait to see you soon!
