Christmas Is Coming!

Have any of you done your Christmas Shopping yet?

If so, how much is done: 25% complete ... 50% ... 75%?

Just curious.

I went Christmas Shopping last week and did about 80% of my shopping.  Woo Hoo!!!  It was FUN to buy a couple of things for each of the at-home kids (and Papa).  We don't make a big focus on presents ... and we have definitely had years where we didn't have money for any presents ... but this year it was nice to be able to go out and buy a few things.

I shopped at Kohls for our Christmas Eve Pajamas, and a new Christmas Table Cloth to go along with my new decorating.  They had a good sale going on for each of the things on my list.

I am so excited for my Christmas Decorating this year.  Oh. My. Yes.  Last year, we pulled out a few decorations, but never even purchased a Christmas tree, as we were traveling to and from Houston for Jeremiah's wedding, and were gone from December 10 - 23rd.  This year, not only will we be HOME for the month of December, but I am excited to figure out how to decorate with all of my new furniture. (The dining room hutch and living room bookshelves give me more flat surfaces to decorate.  Yippee!)

I would LOVE to hear what some of YOUR favorite Christmas traditions are.  Decorating?  Gifts?  Yummy Treats?

  1. My roommate and I decorated last weekend. We even tried to get a tree, but they weren't out yet. So, she got a tree on Wed, and I decorated it yesterday. I have about 50% of my shopping done (but I'm only shopping for 6 people: 3 kids I nanny for, 2 nieces, and my roommate's stocking). Today I got my Christmas music out/ downloaded and a playlist made (listening to it as I type). Oh, and I watched "Elf" last night-- made me think of you guys!

"Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?"

It's the first year that I've been able to get out all my decorations and put my ornaments on a tree. So fun!!!

  2. ALL DONE!
Of course with 7 adoption/birthdays within 2 months surrounding Thanksgiving and Christmas.....it is just easier to save myself the heartache and shop online and in the store in OCTOBER.
I also find I am not tempted to overspend when I do this!!! :)

  3. I'm about 99% finished. With the relatives that is! LOL For the household here it is pretty simple because we do the "three gift" rule only so that helps to speed things along. While having a 3.5 year old in the house who thinks everything in the house she needs doesn't make it easy on actually narrowing things down we are teaching her the difference between want/need/and like to have..... I have to say it is going much better than I originally thought it would. She has a pretty good grasp of understanding that we don't need everything we see now to get her to realize she doesn't have to WANT everything. lol

I think Christmas can get too commercial so limiting the gift amount helps to focus on what is really important. I do that with extended family as well, they get a price limit on each person and then I limit how many gifts they each get. Some may get one big present while the others get a couple of small ones but keeping the price point in mind at all times, when you're shopping for lots of extended family that is key.

My hat is off to you with all the kids to buy in your own household. Do you make gifts for relatives? In years past when money was really tight I would make gifts, while they might not have been appreciated for the gift giving itself it was at least something.
