On Wednesday, Hosanna (a Freshman) ran in the . . .
Junior Varsity NW Conference Championship Track Meet
(with 14 teams in all classifications)
ie: big schools and little schools
Hosanna running the 100m.
I believe she got 2nd in her heat.
"J" handing off the baton to Hosanna in the 4 x 100 Relay.
Taken from across the field . . . from the far end of the stands . . . through the soccer goal.
Hosanna handing off the baton.
You can see in the previous picture, that the red team got the baton first.
The red team was on the inside lane around the corner.
However . . . the red team's runner isn't even in sight as Hosanna hands off.
Which means . . . Hosanna ran a FAST leg of her relay. Woo Hoo!
Hosanna running the 200m.
This is the fastest heat of 5 heats that were run.
They are very evenly matched, with about 100m left to run.
Hosanna . . .
still going strong . . .
pulling out ahead of the other runners.
Hosanna crosses the finish line . . .
a split second behind the gal in red.
Hosanna placed 2nd in the 200m . . .
out of all 5 heats . . .
and about 35 runners.
Great Job, Hosanna!
On Friday, Ben (a Senior) ran in the . . .
NW Conference Championship Track Meet
(against 14 Varsity teams in all classifications)
Ben . . . running the 200m.
We've got some STIFF competition in the NW Conference.
Crossing the Finish Line.
Mentally Preparing . . .
for his leg of the 4x400 Relay.
for his leg of the 4x400 Relay.
Ben takes the handoff,
and turns to RUN.
Ben's 4x100 Relay Team placed 2nd.
(sorry . . . no pics of that race)
Ben's 4x400 Relay Team also placed 2nd.
They are hoping to go to STATE with both Relay Teams.
(Their 4x400 took 1st in State last year.)
Run, Boys, Run!!!
Do any of YOU have Track Runners?
Do any of YOU have Runaway Runners?
YAY Ben and Hosanna! Wish I could be there to cheer from the stands... It was soooo fun to get to go to a bunch of their meets last year!
ReplyDeleteNot so "yay" for the Runaway Runner... Glad a friend picked her up right away. Praying it doesn't happen again.
Seems most of your kids are runners - how did that come about? Who inspired them. How did they get going on this passion and keep it?
ReplyDeleteAs for your Runaway Runner. So sad to hear - but glad she was found quickly. That must be a terrifying feeling. Prayers for her and your family
Papa was a baseball player; and Mama was a runner.
DeleteAll of our kids have played baseball from K - 6th grade. (We had 8 kids in Spring Sports one year.) With our older 5, the 2 boys continued with baseball through high school, while the 3 girls switched over to track in 7th grade (as there weren't any track teams in elementary school).
When our 3rd son hit middle school, he quit baseball ... and then didn't quite know what to do with himself. :) In 10th grade, his older sisters said, "Why don't you come out for track with us?" And, a Runner Boy was born. :) The next fall, he took up Cross Country running (something new for our family) and was really GOOD at it. He became our first long distance runner.
Ben played baseball through 8th grade, but really didn't like the social scene of the other ball players. So, in 9th grade, big brother asked him to run cross country with him ... and another long distance Boy Runner was born. In the spring, Ben decided to run Track instead of play baseball.
Ben has been amazingly dedicated as a runner ... running year around, not just during track or cross country season. He also was our first runner to run at the State Meet (Josh had gone as an alternate his Senior year). And ... Ben's 4x400 Relay Team took 1st in State both of the past 2 years.
Hosanna played baseball through 6th grade, and then switched right over to track. I wouldn't be surprised at all if she follows her brother Ben as a State runner.
Now ... our younger kids have all had the opportunity to start running at track meets in the summer time, the past 4 years. So, Sarah is on her first year of the track team (7th grade) but is quite an experienced sprinter.
The verdict is still out on Josiah & Elijah as to whether they will be Track Stars or will continue the Baseball Tradition of their oldest 2 brothers. :)
Papa actually played Football, Basketball, and Baseball in high school; while Mama played Volleyball, Basketball, and ran Track. So, we are pretty athletically inclined. However ... we have purposely kept our kids to only ONE sport up through Middle School, with the opportunity to add a 2nd sport in high school. FAMILY is much more important than sports at our house.
This must be a welcomed retreat from all of lifes other issues for you to be able to switch hats and cheer your kids on.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and happy spring! God is good ........ALL THE TIME!
Yes.
DeleteA welcome retreat . . .
I do LOVE being a cheerleader for my kids and for their friends.
Yes.
God is good . . . all the time.
Blessings and Happy Spring to you, too, Susan.
I used to live and breath cross country and track season.

Blessings and joy,
