This song has meant a lot to me
the past 20 months,
the past 20 months,
as Jim & I have weathered
the worst storms of our marriage.
the worst storms of our marriage.
Today is our 30th Anniversary.
I was nineteen, you were twenty-one
The year we got engaged
(Yes. I was 19 and Jim was 21 the year we got engaged.)
Everyone said we were much too young
But we did it anyway
We bought our rings for forty each
From a pawn shop down the road
Everyone said we were much too young
But we did it anyway
We bought our rings for forty each
From a pawn shop down the road
(Not quite . . . but we didn't spend a lot on our rings.)
We made our vows and took the leap
Now fifteen years ago
We made our vows and took the leap
Now fifteen years ago
(Now 30 years ago.)
We went dancing in the minefields
We went sailing in the storm
We went dancing in the minefields
We went sailing in the storm
(and never dreamed the storms could get worse after 30 years)
And it was harder than we dreamed
(is this really what we signed up for?)
But I believe that's what the promise is for
"I do" are the two most famous last words
The beginning of the end
But to lose your life for another I've heard
Is a good place to begin
And it was harder than we dreamed
(is this really what we signed up for?)
But I believe that's what the promise is for
"I do" are the two most famous last words
The beginning of the end
But to lose your life for another I've heard
Is a good place to begin
'Cause the only way to find your life
Is to lay your own life down
And I believe it's an easy price
For the life that we have found
And we're (still) dancing in the minefields
We're (still) sailing in the storm
This is harder than we dreamed
(but, God never promised "easy")
But I believe that's what the promise is for
So when I lose my way, find me
When I loose love's chains, bind me
At the end of all my faith, till the end of all my days
When I forget my name, remind me
'Cause we bear the light of the Son of Man
So there's nothing left to fear
(not unemployment, not lack of insurance, not loss of relationships)
So I'll walk with you in the shadowlands
Till the shadows disappear
'Cause he promised not to leave us
And his promises are true
(We cling to this.)
And I believe it's an easy price
For the life that we have found
And we're (still) dancing in the minefields
We're (still) sailing in the storm
This is harder than we dreamed
(but, God never promised "easy")
But I believe that's what the promise is for
So when I lose my way, find me
When I loose love's chains, bind me
At the end of all my faith, till the end of all my days
When I forget my name, remind me
'Cause we bear the light of the Son of Man
So there's nothing left to fear
(not unemployment, not lack of insurance, not loss of relationships)
So I'll walk with you in the shadowlands
Till the shadows disappear
'Cause he promised not to leave us
And his promises are true
(We cling to this.)

30 years friend!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a blessing!!
What a beautiful couple you two are then and now. You both are amazing.
You took vows before God 30 years ago and through trials that have fallen in your path you both have still chosen to honor those vows and stay together. In this day and age where marriages are disposable, that is a huge accomplishment. Your marriage is such a testament to those of us not married quite as long (only 16 here) that no matter what the enemy may throw your way, with God, we can make it.
Praying for your next 30 years together to be so full of blessings and happiness!! That your past will be just that, in the past, and your future together will be filled with walks together holding hands and hearts, watching the sun rise on your new day.
((hugs))

"holding hands and hearts watching the sun rise on a new day"
DeleteBeautiful. Thanks. We are praying for a "new day" to rise ... we need a fresh start. We need the sun to rise and shine brightly. We need the clouds and darkness to be pushed away. We are clinging to the hope that God will bring us a "new day".
Thanks for the picture of hope, and the hugs for today.
Laurel. :)
Happy Anniversary :)
ReplyDeleteHappy 30th anniversary! I hope the day will be a celebration of all you've weathered and experienced through the years. God is working even when you can't see it in the day to day. Keep writing and keep loving on your family. You are a blessing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Friend. You are a blessing to me, as well.
DeleteHold on to hope. As long as their is hope, you can survive most anything. Talking from experience here, not just giving pat answers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathy.
DeleteCongratulations on your 30th anniversary! My husband and I celebrated our 51st yesterday. Yes, there are minefields, but with God and our Christian faith, we weather them. My parents have been married 71 years. How many people can say that their parents were able to come to their 50th celebration (last year)? We have been mightily blessed.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome testimony. Thanks so much for sharing.
Deletecongratulations! this is indeed a beautiful song that i have been enjoying for the past few months. even my 6-year-old little one will ask for the 'MINEFIELD' song! marriage is not for the faint of heart...we are coming up on 43 and still making changes and adjustments. blessings as you look toward the sunrise of a new day in your marriage!
