Diet Standstill

Oh. So. Frustrating.

Week #7 of Mama's New Weight Loss Journey

For 10 days I have gone up and down the same 2 pounds.

During those 10 days, I only ate more than 1200 calories 4 days.

During those 10 days, I ate under 1020 calories 4 days.

I exercised 3 of the 10 days.

I should be losing weight.

I am right at the weight that I have gotten to
3 times in the past 4 years,
and I'm having a very hard time breaking through this barrier.

When I work so. very. hard. to eat less than 1000 calories,
weighing and measuring every bite,
and eat protein at every meal,
and not eat any sugar (except in fruit),
and I end up gaining weight that day,
it is just. plain. frustrating.

I got to #19.5 lost . . . and then gained a pound.

So wanting to BREAK the #20 barrier.

Any tips or suggestions???

Here's a link to My Xyngular Website.

Even though I've hit a plateau . . .

I have still LOST almost 20 pounds in 7 weeks!

Not really something to complain about.  (smile)

  1. Oh sweetie. Hang in there! Sometimes you hit that plateau and your body justs wants to hang on tight! Did you eat a lot of red meat the night before getting on the scale? Red meat takes like 24hours to completely digest so it could've been still sitting in there! How about salt? If I eat salt my scale HATES me! Don't give up, all your hard work will pay off! Want to go for a walk soon? I have been walking EVERY day and the scale moved!

  2. Hang in There. Switch it up...try something new in excercising...sometimes as we gain muscle we may plateau for awhile, because our bodies have learned how to become more efficient in relases of energy in those excerciese. For example, if you mostly do cardio, your body learns to adapt and becomes efficient in using/expending those calories - so try swimming, or weights instead for a little while and you will start shedding again: my trainer taught me this - she said this is why you might still see women who always do cardio still hold onto weight. She also taught me that women are real good cardio excercises, but it is weight training (not to build muscles per say) that really helps the weight loss, because even sitting or sleeping muscles burn fat. Don't fall for the misnomer that a lb of muscle is heavier than a lb of fat. A pound is a pound - a pound of ore is equal to a pound of feathers - one is just less bulky than the other (fat vs muscle).
In your diet, try switching what you eat to other healthy options - our bodies can sometimes get in a rut if we eat the same things (healthy or not). Example if you mostly eat chicken, try fish for awhile and if you do mostly fruits switch to veggies which are less sugar based.
Don't forget the cycles of woman really effect the 5-7 lb range. Our bodies have cycles and retain water etc. Nothing we can do about this. You sometimes have to hold on for a couple of weeks before things can balance.
More often than not, the platueas hit but hang on and keeping pushing!! You can do it!!!

    1. Thanks so much for the encouragement . . . and all of the information. I would love to go swimming and do some weights, but we can't afford a fitness club membership. So, I just keep plugging along on my treadmill.

  3. i'd recommend going off the fruit, it's got a high glycemic index. also may i suggest you read the book "wheat belly"- very scientific and frightening to realize the wheat in almost everything we eat is genetically modified and actually toxic! hang in there, your body will figure it out...

    1. Thanks for the insight and book reference. I didn't eat any fruit yesterday or today . . . which is hard with all of the fresh summer fruit in the house. Trying to stick with protein and veggies for awhile.

  5. My body hit the plateau around week 5, and has been there for 3 months now. BUT I needed it. Just like you I have repeatedly been at this weight each time I lose, and now I know I don't have to go back up. That is the lesson in itself, to maintain and get use to this loss. I am gearing up for more workouts this coming week, so hope to drop another 20 through the fall! =) Hang in there, down 19 feels so much better, doesn't it?!!!

  7. I am NOT an expert, but 1000 calories is not much at all. Perhaps your body is returning to that starvation mode and is holding onto the calories you have given it. My suggestion would be to simply listen to your body, eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. Chew slowly, taking at least 25 minutes to eat your meal. If you find it hard to take that long, then eat some, take a break for a few minutes (you don't have to get up from the table but simply put your fork down and talk to the family and then resume). Drink lots of water. As for the exercise, I know that having a "dedicated" time for it is so hard (and I only have 3 kids!). But try to be mindful about moving more--making yourself get up and walk around the house, can you park your car in a position and walk to more than one of the stores you need to visit, etc. Just be mindful of moving more, even if not in an exercise time period.
