Highly Distracted!

Am I the only one distracted by Election Results today?!?!

I am seriously on. the. edge. of. my. seat.
waiting to see what direction Our Great Country is headed.

I so clearly remember my concerns fears during the 2004 election.
My eldest son was in the army and headed to Iraq,
and I did NOT want John Kerry to be his Commander in Chief.

Yes.  I was pretty worried.

Today . . .
my concerns for Our Great Country are so much deeper,
so much more profound.

I am truly seeking God's Mercy today.

I am asking that He give Wisdom
to all Believers as they vote.

And . . .

I'll just put it right out there . . .

I am praying that Mitt Romney is handed the baton,
to lead our country for the next 4 years.
No.  He is not perfect.  But, I believe he
can do a LOT of good with the mess we are in.

I am praying that Washington State
votes AGAINST the push to change the
God-ordained definition of Marriage.

I am praying that Washington State
REJECTS the move towards legalizing Marijuana.
Seriously?!?!  How could this possibly be GOOD???

I am praying that Washington State changes the direction
of our state government, by electing a
Republican Governor for the first time in a long time.
We NEED Change.  Real Change.

Okay.

Off my soap box.

PLEASE go vote . . . if you haven't already.

And . . . PRAY for Our Great Country today!

  1. I enjoy reading your blog... but am on the opposite side of the political fence from you, sorry :-). Especially on the gay marriage initiative. Hope that passes. Take care.

  2. I'm with you. Please God. I want to stay a free country and a Christian country in the sense that it was originally a Christian country. I want my one in the military and my two on the way to know their commander-in-chief has their backs. And I want a first lady who won't flaunt her vacation while the rest of us scrimp and save to take a vacation within our own state.

  3. Well, they called it and I just sat in stunned silence. I had to remember that thousands of us had prayed that God would put into power the man he was going to allow there. I have to confess that I asked specifically for one candidate to make it, but I had to say tonight, "Lord, I hate it when you tell me "no".

I know we don't know the end from the beginning and we don't know what America's lessons to be learned are. I feel frightened if I let my thoughts go too far, for I believe we, as Christians, will see many of our freedoms removed. This too will have lessons in it for me. We have been so blessed in America, we don't want to see our freedoms curtailed.

well, I am rambling--just want to close with the last three lines of Ann Voskamp's post this morning. It puts it all into perspective.

    "There is unwavering peace today…

    when an uncertain tomorrow…

is trusted to an unchanging God."

    Blessings

  4. Portland granny -- Can you comment on the freedoms you think will be taken away with another term for President Obama?

I think we all are so blessed to live in a country where everyone has a say and that we can openly discuss our differences without fear of punishment for our opinions but I do think we need to be informed. Kathy, granny or Laurel -- do you think that the President is NOT a Christian? I never quite understand what people mean when they say that President Obama is not "God's best choice." He may have views that disagree with yours but I don't think that his religion is really much of an issue.

    1. Stephanie . . . great questions. I hope the others ladies will chime in with answers, as well.

First of all, I do not make my political choices because of whether or not the candidate is part of my "religion". I strongly disagree with both Obama and Romney when it comes to theology.

However, I do make political choices based on a candidates moral policy decisions. While Romney and I may have very different "religious theologies", we agree on most moral values, which affect policy decisions. Does that make sense?

I am certainly not one to decide whether or not Obama or Romney "are Christians" or not. That is God's decision when they each face him at the pearly gates. However . . .

because I do my very best to live according to the Biblical Standards that the Lord has laid out for us in His Word, I vote according to whether or not the candidate desires to also follow God's Word in his decision making process. From all I have seen, President Obama does not consult God's Word when making decisions that affect our nation. Here are two glaring examples . . .

Abortion: God does not allow/condone/permit the killing of innocent children, even in cases of "A Women's Choice".

"Truly children are a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward" (Psalm 127:3).

"You have been my guide since I was first formed . . . from my mother’s womb you are my God" (Psalm 22:10-11)

"With [the tongue] we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings who are made in the image of God . . . This ought not be so, brothers" (James 3:9-10).

Same-Sex Marriage: God clearly defines marriage as between a Man and a Woman. He goes on to explain the depravity of man's mind that leads to same-sex sexual relationships.

―a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body [flesh]‖ (Gn 2:24).

You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination. [Leviticus 18:22]

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. [1 Corinthians 6:9-10]

For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. [Romans 1:26-27]

Both of these issues are clearly defined in God's Word. I believe it is wrong for Believers to ignore God's Calling . . . God's Wisdom . . . and, thus, the fact of God's Punishment that will fall upon us, as our country turns away from His Word.

      Thanks for asking.

      Mama D.

    1. Look forward to hearing your thoughts. For me, this isn't a big moral issue like some other topics . . . just an "I don't get it at all" type of position.

But . . . I'd have no problem going back to making alcohol illegal, either. Just call me old fashioned. I don't see any need for alcohol or drugs. Period.

Should be very interesting to see how it all plays out. I just can't quite envision driving by the Marijuana Farms out here in Farm Country. Will they have "You Pick" fields, next to the Strawberry Fields??? Just weird.

      :) :) :)

  7. Read an interesting blog post the other day about the pro-life position and why it really doesn't hold the moral high ground from someone who used to believe it: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/lovejoyfeminism/2012/10/how-i-lost-faith-in-the-pro-life-movement.html
I think it's pretty presumptuous to say that denying civil rights to a certain segment of the population is God's Calling and that we're going to face God's Punishment. My gay pastor and his seminarian professor of a partner would disagree. Deny them marriage in your church if you wish but keep it out of the state laws.
Sorry for being cranky... I'm getting pretty tired of people (not just you... I'm just taking it out here) taking a personal preference for conservative politics and calling it the only Holy choice.

    1. Denying Civil Rights??? Washington State already had a "Domestic Partnership" law which gave same-sex couples all of the "rights" of married couples. I voted against granting "marriage" to same-sex couples based on the definition of marriage found in God's Word. I choose to live my life (and therefore base my voting decisions) on what the Lord teaches in His Word.

I quoted Scripture . . . to back up my position. If you, and your pastor, and his partner don't agree with God's Word, that is certainly your prerogative.

I choose to live my life, as best I can, by the mandates set by God in His Word.

I choose to vote according to those same mandates.

I choose to share on my blog, the voting choices that I made.

      I am not . . .

      . . . judging.

      . . . condemning.

. . . denying anyone their civil rights.

As for saying something is "the only Holy choice". . . . those were certainly not my words. It seems to be God's Word that you are refuting, not my "personal preference for conservative politics".

And, just to let you know, I have a VERY close friend who completely disagrees with me politically . . . and we have no animosity towards each other. So, all of this dialogue here is said with a smile on my face. We could be just as easily chatting over a cup of coffee.

I am truly sorry, though, that my blog post has made you cranky. I hope you can still read my blog with an open heart and mind, choosing to agree to disagree.

      Laurel :)

  8. I am deeply concerned about his position on coal. We are a coal state... and so are the states around us. 90% of energy used in Ohio is from coal... but they choose to elect a man that has declared a war on a natural resource that funds many of the national and state programs that keep America running. I fear what our states will look like in 4 yrs. Our local industries will be demolished- and lives will be forever changed.

    Healthcare:
We have already been told starting in January our co-pay will be going from $20 to $50 to help with the cost of his healthcare program. The health insurance we pay for (and it's not cheap!!!!!)- will soon be out of our grasp.

    Taxes:
If tax breaks are not signed into effect SOON!!!!!- (in our taz bracket) we will be paying DOUBLE this January. From 15% (currently) to 30% (january).

And this is just the beginning of his next 4 years. I wonder 4 years down the road what our lives will look like.

Maybe this will cause us to be dependant on our heavenly father????

ps... as I have worked with cancer patients for YEARS... I know medical marijuana is not as effective as other medications for controling pain. It is an excuse to ease that lifestyle into our way of life.

    God help our children!

As far as rights being stripped- I could go on forever. Look at the "parental rights act" he SUPPORTS and wants signed into effect. ARE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ASLEEP???????

    1. Good to hear from you, Kelli.

Just to let you know . . . Washington State has legalized Marijuana for RECREATIONAL USE. It is now legal to have a "Marijuana Farm". It is now legal to open up a Marijuana Store. It is now legal to sell "products which contain marijuana". (a marijuana bakery?) It is legal to buy and smoke marijuana publicly (starting on December 6th).

The tricky part comes when you look at the fact that it is still ILLEGAL under Federal Law. So, WA State has decided to completely disregard Federal Laws in this area. A seriously slippery slope to begin sliding down . . .

Just an FYI of what the new Marijuana Laws in Wa. State are about . . .

  9. Wow. I had read it will be a year before there are real changes to the marijuana laws because logistics need to be worked out. It will definitely not be legal to smoke publicly! The government will, license farms and stores... Not just anyone can grow pot and growing for recreational use is still illegal. The law will be strict and specific.

    1. Yesterday, people were already flooding Olympia with phone calls asking to purchase licenses. Yes, it can be smoked publicly . . . the person just has to be 21. The law goes into affect December 6th. Yep. 1 month from election day. It CAN be grown and sold for recreational use. It has nothing to do with "medical use". "Anyone" CAN grow marijuana . . . they just have to buy a license and pay taxes. There is 1 license for "growing" . . . a different license for "wholesale distribution" . . . and a separate license for "retail sales". The retail sales license is for selling marijuana, "products made from marijuana", and "paraphernalia used to store or use marijuana". At the same time, "Federal marijuana laws could still be enforced". Which doesn't make sense at all. :)

  10. Lol! I just read the u pick comment. That is so funny Laurel!
But srsly.....how will it be grown without people stealing it? Its going to be interesting to see how and if the feds respond too.
