Mid-Winter Break

All of our Local Schools have a

"Mid-Winter Break"

. . .  a time that teachers and students

  get to take a vacation.

Some schools take a long 4 day weekend

(usually in February)

while others give their students and staff a full week off.

This is a time for staff and students to

take a break . . . rest . . . relax . . . sleep in . . .

and enjoy their "free days".

Most people that work full-time,

also get to take vacations.

They usually take a week or two or three off every year,

in order to take a break . . . rest . . . relax . . . sleep in . . .

and enjoy some "free days".

But . . .

. . .  what about Moms?

. . .  what about Homeschool Moms?

. . .  what about Moms of Large Families?

. . .  when do they get to take a Vacation?

. . .  when do they get to take a Break?

. . .  when do they get to rest, relax
and just enjoy some "free days"?

This week,

I am taking a "Mid-Winter Break",

and I think I may just need to plan one every year.

I am not "Running Away" from any problems.

Things have actually been going pretty well.

I planned this trip last September,

when I stumbled upon some really cheap plane tickets.

So . . .

. . .  why do I feel so "weird" about this trip?

. . .  why don't other moms take "vacations",
just for the sake of taking a vacation?

Now . . .

while the main focus of this trip is

Time for Mama . . .

the rest of the family benefits, as well:

The kids got some fun Big Brother Time with Ben yesterday.

The kids get to hang out with Sweet Friend Alex today and tomorrow.

The kids get some focused Papa Time on Saturday and Sunday.

And . . .

Papa and the Kids get a

Rested & Relaxed Mama

when I go home on Sunday night.

Some would say that . . .

"Christmas was just last month".

"Why do you need another holiday/vacation so soon?"

But . . .

the reality is that

"Christmas Break"

is just NOT a "break" for most moms.

Christmas "Vacation"

is filled with . . .

. . .  Christmas Cookie Baking.

. . .  Christmas House Decorating.

. . .  Young Ones, Big Kids, & Grandkids.

. . .  Church Programs & Activities.

While

I LOVE Christmas . . .

it is not a time of rest . . . relaxation . . . or "free time".

I think that Late January or Early February are

the PERFECT time for my new holiday:

Mama's Mid-Winter Break.

Maybe next year I'll find some other Mama's to join me.

Maybe Hallmark should come out with a new line of cards . . .

"Enjoy Your Holiday, Mama!"

  1. I leave for my mid-winter break on Sunday! I'm headed to sunny Florida for a week-long visit with my mom...sans kids. This is the third year running for this adventure! You are not alone and it IS necessary for me to be a better mom.

  2. I think it's a great idea and am glad you are enjoying it! Personally it doesn't appeal to me at all, I relax best in the throes of my household goings on, but they are about 7 kids & etc. less than yours :-)

  3. Oh I am so jealous!! :) Love this idea! You're right- mommas need breaks. Our husbands usually have defined hours . When do we get off?! Enjoy.
